A DAY IN THE DARK: Great Films (you may not know)

“This Day School course will examine 10 – 15 Great Movies (many of which you may never have heard of). We will look at the background in which the films were produced, the stars and the film makers as well as evaluating the reputation of the films themselves. Format includes showing many film clips, discussion and learning fascinating film facts. A must for film fans – bring popcorn, but don’t expect ‘The Sound of Music’.” Tutor: Laurence Staig.

Laurence Staig is an author, film maker and lecturer in Cultural Studies in adult education. Previously he was Head of Film Studies at a Cambridge College, and has worked in Arts Management for the Arts Council of England and as Director of several major UK Festivals

He provides you with a framework for understanding why you like the films you do, to get much more out of films that you have already seen and stimulates a desire to see the films that he talks about… As a result I encouraged the local WEA to sponsor such an event given the level of enthusiasm for film in our village. We have already booked for his Wivenhoe premiere on Saturday March 2nd and would encourage anyone who likes film to do the same.

A DAY IN THE DARK film studies day school will be in the Wivenhoe Congregational Church on Saturday 2nd March from 10am-4pm (with a short morning break and a 45 min lunch break). The fee is £15.
