Cinema for All 2016 Community Cinema Conference

Day 1

Friday 4 November

The Conference kicked off with a showing of Ghost Dog. The film forms part of the Black Star Season currently showing at the BFI and the curator Ashley Clark gave a talk about the aims of the season which is to celebrate black actors since the beginnings of cinema. He was very passionate about Black Dog and its star Forest Whitaker. He talked about the social conditions within which the films were made and their impact on the films. Ghost Dog is steeped in 1990s Hip Hop for example.

After the film there were drinks and fabulous finger buffet and a chance to chat to other film club/community cinema organisers.
