Apollo 11 has already won an award for Editing at the Sundance Festival and it would be very surprising if it did not win at least a nomination for Best Documentary at all the big award ceremonies coming up in early 2020. It is a very beautiful and quite thrilling film, guaranteed to have your heart beating faster and with original footage all the way through.  It offers an incredible opportunity to understand everything that went into that awe-inspiring event, from prelaunch to splashdown recovery. In particular, it makes it clear that the mission’s success wasn’t the noble effort of just three astronauts but rather of hundreds of thousands of NASA employees, contractors, volunteers, and more working as a vast team. Some of the film’s footage has never been seen before, and it’s breathtaking. It’s better than anything you might have seen on TV in July around the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
