This is another film in our season that is built on two outstanding performances, in this case by Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan, convincing us that they have been married for thirty years and on a romantic visit to Paris, which exposes the cracks and then, somehow, heals them. There is a quirky, funny script from Hanif Kureshi and, of course, lovely shots of the Paris streets. Jenny McCartney calls it ‘ a beautifully executed, fearlessly truthful and droll film on the emotional politics of reinvention’ and that sums it up pretty well.
Both the leads have won Best Actor awards, Lindsay Duncan at the British Independent Film awards and Jim Broadbent at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
