‘Sugarman’ Review

OH WHAT A NIGHT………

……and what an extraordinary, uplifting delight of a film! The Philip Rd centre was crammed to capacity last night for the screening of the BAFTA/OSCAR winning ‘Searching for Sugarman’ with special guest Exec Producer Sheryl Crown.

It was standing room only, and the last few cinemagoers waited with admirable understanding whilst Philip Finn did a mercy dash down the road for the family dining chairs…..

The documentary related the incredible tale of Sixto Rodriguez, who despite the failure of his early 70s US recordings, became ‘bigger than Elvis’ to rebellious apartheid era youth in South Africa.

With beautiful cinematography, a riveting narrative, amazing music AND a happy ending ‘Sugarman’ has it all.

Sheryl Crown was on hand to answer questions from the eager audience, and to offer some excellent anecdotal accounts around the making of the film.

‘Moving Image’ would like to say a big thank you to all who came along, and of course to Sheryl Crown for her generous support of our event.

JOIN US NEXT SATURDAY FOR ANNA KARENINA with Kiera Knightley.
