McCullin (15)

Tipped for an Oscar but pipped at the post by ‘Sugarman’ the new and stunning documentary on the British war photographer Don McCullin is a film not to be missed. As Phillip French says in the Guardian: “McCullin became what the French call a baroudeur, a man obsessively drawn to combat, but not in an exploitative, sensationalist way. Though there is a deal of newsreel material in the Morrises’ documentary and valuable comments on photojournalism by Harry Evans, former editor of the Sunday Times, what dominates the film are the black-and-white still images. They engrave themselves on our minds… Don’t miss this fine film.”
