Marley (15)
Director: Kevin Macdonald. Starring: Bob Marley, Rita Marley and Ziggy Marley.
USA 145 mins
MacDonald (One Day in September, Touching The Void) has produced a truly moving and engaging documentary on the life and music of Reggae hero Bob Marley. Charting the singer’s life from his poor background in Trenchtown to his rise as a powerful figure in the 70’s Reggae scene and his spiritual journey into Rastafarianism, MacDonald features truly unique interviews and footage of friends, lovers and fellow musicians. Tragically Marley died of a cancer (triggered by a football injury) in 1981 but in his busy 36 year life he created an enduring musical record that continues to inspire. A frank and insightful portrait of a man, his music and his spiritual legacy.
